Jesus, The Sin Offering

I realize that many of the statements I have made in this book could only be called theory without Old Testament types to bear them out. So we will begin with the Book of Leviticus, chapter 6.

... The Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, saying, This is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is killed shall the sin offering be killed before the Lord: it is most holy.

The priest that offereth it for sin shall eat it: in the holy place shall it be eaten, in the court of the tabernacle of the congregation (Lev. 6:24-26).

At first glance, it sounds like the high priest is going to eat the sacrifice. But notice verse 30: And no sin offering, whereof any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt in the fire.

Sin Offering Burnt

Jesus was the Sin Offering. The Sin Offering shall be burnt in the fire. The Psalmist David tapped into it: . . . Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell (Ps. 86:13). These prophetic words refer to Jesus being delivered from hell.

Listen to the words of Jesus. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth (Matt. 12:40).

In the heart of the earth. In the center of the earth, not in the grave. That's where hell is—in the center of the earth. There are several places in the Scriptures that indicate this.

Whatsoever shall touch the flesh thereof shall be holy: and when there is sprinkled of the blood thereof upon any garment, thou shalt wash that whereon it was sprinkled in the holy place.

But the earthen vessel wherein it is sodden shall be broken: and if it be sodden in a brasen pot, it shall be both scoured, and rinsed in water. All the males among the priests shall eat thereof: it is most holy.

And no sin offering, whereof any of the blood is brought into the tabernacle of the congregation to reconcile withal in the holy place, shall be eaten: it shall be burnt in the fire.

Leviticus 6:27-30 In other words, the Sin Offering (that represents Jesus) could not be eaten. It had to be burned.

I want you to notice verse 28. The earthen vessel wherein it is sodden shall be broken. Listen to the prophetic words concerning Jesus. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel (Ps. 31:12).

The First Death

Isaiah said, "He made His grave with the wicked ... in His deaths." As He hung on the cross, Jesus—the Lamb, the unblemished Sin Offering, the Son of God—remained holy until the last breath left His body.

When He breathed His last breath, He said, It is finished. He gave Himself up to physical death and then received spiritual death, after the Sin Offering was made.
